The International Medical University (IMU) was established in 1992 as a fully private university specializing in medicine, health sciences, and complementary medicine programs. It has gained a strong reputation internationally for providing high-quality medical education. Located in Bukit Jalil, the campus offers various programs including Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nutrition. The campus provides a dynamic and interactive learning environment with facilities such as collaborative study areas, dental simulation labs, nutrition and dietetics labs, and a Medical Museum. IMU has also established clinical schools in Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Batu Pahat, and Kluang.
One of IMU’s key strengths is its extensive global network of over 29 partner institutions of higher learning in countries like Australia, New Zealand, the US, and the UK. This allows students to pursue education and training opportunities abroad through credit transfer and twinning programs.
IMU places a strong emphasis on integrating education with research and healthcare practice. Students have the opportunity to engage in research projects through the IMU Institute for Research, Development & Innovation (IRDI) during their degree. Additionally, partnerships with leading hospitals in Malaysia provide staff and students with real-life clinical experience.
In terms of rankings and reputation, IMU’s research laboratory received accreditation in 2014 and is officially recognized under the International Standard ISO/IEC. It has also been rated 6-Stars in the latest SETARA rating. In 2017, IMU became the first and only private Malaysian medical university to receive self-accreditation status from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
